Movie News Monday for April 25, 2011!

“Movie News Monday!” has finally arrived! Welcome to your weekly dose of Monday glory!! (One of the very few reasons to smile about Mondays!) :D

In case this is your first time here, “Movie News Monday! (MNM)” is the place to visit every Monday for a quick recap of trending entertainment news! I’ve collected info, rumors, etc from all over just for you to keep you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Are you ready for your weekly update? Here it is!

This Just In!!…

#1- “The Weekend Winner.” As I stated last week….Animation appears to be the way to go in order to reach box office gold during the first 4 months of the year! Rango, Hop, and Rio have all proven to be big contenders and great performers in the box office. Following suit, Rio is another animated film that claimed the #1 spot over the weekend two times in a row! This weekend was a pretty dismal box office weekend…however, Congrats to the bird!

Here are the weekend’s results:

  1. Rio ~$26.3 million
  2. Madea’s Big Happy Family ~$25.1 million (NEW RELEASE)
  3. Water for Elephants ~$16.8 million (NEW RELEASE)
  4. Hop ~$12.2 million
  5. Scream4 ~$7.03 million
  6. African Cats ~$6 million (NEW RELEASE)
  7. Soul Surfer ~$5.4 million
  8. Hanna ~$5.29 million
  9. Insidious ~$5.2 million
  10. Source Code ~$5.1 million

#2- “Class Is Almost In Session” X-Men: First Class releases in a little bit over a month and it looks great! Too bad the same cannot be said for the posters that keep releasing for the film. (Have you seen the posters so far? Check them out HERE). On the other hand, the trailers look great! Here’s a look at the newest trailer featuring a bit more action, Sebastian Shaw, Magneto, etc!! Enjoy! On June 3rd, class begins!?

#3- “Hobbit Happenings.” Casting news for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit! Sir Ian Holm will indeed reprise his role as Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit (albeit, an older Bilbo seeing as The Hobbit‘s storyline takes place with a much younger Bilbo). Holm performed admirably in LOTR as Baggins and his inclusion in The Hobbit is a perfect fit. Martin Freeman is cast as the younger Bilbo in The Hobbit.

Also, Rob Kazinsky (cast to play Fili -brother of Kili and one of the youngest Hobbits in the film) announced his unfortunate departure from The Hobbit part 1 and 2. Needing to leave and citing personal reasons, Kazinsky remains thankful to Jackson and staff for the support and leaves the project, needing Jackson to find a replacement.

A minor setback (adding to a history of several), but The Hobbit still maintains an expected release date of December 19, 2012.

#4- “It’s A Dog Eat Dog World Out There” Don’t forget this weekend, Brandon Routh’s new superhero movie releases in theaters (alongside Fast Five)! Dylan Dog: Dead of Night features Routh as a supernatural supersleuth that hunts monsters, zombies, vampires, you name it, down in the Louisiana bayou. Based on the Dark Horse Comics storyline, Dylan Dog does not seem to be receiving the best of reviews, however, those that miss seeing Routh in the superhero bit may wish to get their fix with this one, for Routh is Superman no more! You can see the trailer HERE!

#5- “This Week’s Blu-ray release” Wow, umm, well, nothing at all really releases this week on Blu-ray or DVD. No major new release films launch in disc format at all, unless you count Sniper: Reloaded as a major new release film. (Look HERE for yourself)! So, this week look forward to new movies launching in theaters! Here they are! I’ll bet you anything that Prom will win the box office this weekend! I already know people waiting in line for it! 😉 jk!

  1. Prom
  2. Fast Five
  3. Dylan Dog: Dead of Night
  4. Hoodwinked Too: Hood vs Evil

Check out this page for a quick synopsis and trailer for each film, plus some predictions!

Well, that’s it for this round of “Movie News Monday!” Thanks for reading! Happy Watching!

  1. Yay for Ian Holm! His scene when he’s giving the mithril to Frodo is one of the creepiest part of LOTR, made me jump out of my seat!

I gotta check out the new Int’l trailer for X-Men 2, haven’t got around to that yet, been a crazy busy day.

Dylan Dog is more of a rental for me, no matter how hunky I think Routh is 😀
